MY OPINION ON POVERTY IN HAITI
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Haiti is one of the poorest countries in North America with a population of 10.4 million citizen, and has a unemployment rate of 40 percent. Historically speaking, Haiti has always been vulnerable to natural disasters, political instability and economic fluctuations, but not for long. The theme of this site is Poverty and, of course, the biggest issue regarding Poverty in Haiti and how many families and lives were affected by the 2010 earthquake. I have already gone through the issue by examining and showcasing both sides of the issue ( in the standpoints page), and now i will explain my perspective regarding the issue. I am very much for the issue regarding Poverty in Haiti, because I think that all countries should receive aid or help to a country that is living below the poverty line. A good example of this is Haiti, back in 2010, a massive earthquake occurred causing many citizens to lose their loved ones, as well as their overall home structure. Canada took a huge role in rebuilding Haiti's overall structure by sending the Canadian Air Force to do a search and rescue team in Haiti, as well as providing citizens with over 1.5 million food, 2.6 million liters of portable water and medical care for over 22,000 people in the aftermath of the earthquake. Although the United States President Obama, stated that" We stand ready to assist the people of Haiti" in one of the New York time press articles, but there was no following action of proof being taken within the article. Furthermore, this is hard for the viewers to believe that United States did provide medical aid towards the country, but there weren't any action being shown. I simply can not comprehend the fact that some countries like United States states state that they are ready to aid Haiti in any way, but there was no following action being displayed. This is unacceptable behavior from the United States, but some countries such as Canada would help any poor countries that are in need of help and assistance. Caring for a country is one thing, and not acknowledging the issue are two separate things. Caring for a country is showing them support throughout rough times such as a earthquake or a natural disaster. While Not acknowledging is that they know the country is in need of help, but they don't want to anything to aid or assist the country that is in need of help. Also, I believe that If you help a country out in the past, they will always owe you the favor in the near future. For example, Canada decided to help Haiti through rough times, but what happens if there were any Natural disasters in Canada?, then Haiti would be the country to aid Canada through the rough times because they owe that favor to Canada. Finally, I believe that all citizens around the world should be aware on what goes on in society, because you never know, the country you may live in might have a natural disaster one day, and this is why you need to be aware on what goes on in our society.
