In 2010, Haiti was struck by what has been called the strongest earthquake since 1770. Many people living in Haiti often have to share the food they eat, and limit children from drinking too much water due to the fact that their water supplies are restricted. News reporter Chelsea Evans from Channel Fox news reminded society about the horrific earthquake event that had occurred in Haiti causing many citizens to lose their love ones. The 7.0mw quake ranged from 4.2 to 5.9 affected at least three million people and increased poverty in Haiti. But in the last two years, the world has turned away from this issues, and has focused on newer problems. Furthermore, the problem is that aid is still needed within the country, and people should start caring and praying that young youths in Haiti are getting the education they deserve, as well as clean drinking water supplies. This article adresses the key aspect of what happened during the 2010 earthquake in 2010. This article is not taking sides, nor is it biased because it is stating clear facts on what citizens have experienced first hands during the quake, and how they attempt to cope with this situation. This issue is important because it lets young youths learn about the basic topic of what a earthquake is and how it is formed. This issue affects citizens living in Haiti, because they are all trying to find a way to stay alive due to the low amount of food, and low water supplies. Everysince the earthquake has occured, over 1.9 million people living within Haiti were in need of assistance of food and water supplies. Around 60 percent of the population lives on less than $1.00 a day. As a result, Half the citizens living in Haiti lack proper nutrition, causing Haiti to be the third hungriest country in the world.
2.Approximately 50 percent of the citizens have access to an upgrade water source, such as a hand pump or a well. This means that many citizens living in Haiti have to depend on lakes and rivers for their water supply, regardless if the water is clean or not. Although, some people may get get better waters than others, a total of 80 percent of citizens do not have proper sanitation available. This means that drinking the water from lakes and rivers, may cause many people to become ill and when they do, they are unable to clean themselves or prevent themselves from any disease they may get from the water. 3. Around 50 percent of youths living in Haiti are able to go to school, while only 30 percent of those only progress to Grade 5. Furthermore, half the youths in Haiti are unable to read or write. Without proper education, the citizens are unable to break free of the cycle of poverty. 4. Haiti is one of the poorest counties in the world with a poverty rate of 77 percent followed by Guinea with a 76.7 percent Poverty rate. The World Bank has predicted that the eartquake back in 2010, has caused atleast $8 million in damage, or 120 percent of the GDP. 5. Due to the horrific event back in 2010, many childrens and youths are often orphaned childrens because most of their loved ones have been lost due to the earthquake or illnesses. Many of whom, often live on the streets. Furthermore, there are about 250,000 orphaned childrens working as servants and often treated like slaves. As part of the government's emergency response, community kitchens like these were launched all over Haiti in help aiding mothers to feed their young youths. The women often cook the meals, and then sell them to villagers . Many youths were starving everyday due to the low food supply because of the 2010 horrific earthquake. This article is mostly focused on aiding mothers to feed their young youths and showcasing the fact that women were put to work by the government to aid the community as well. Many youths did not have much food to eat, due to the low nutrition and water supplies, so the government decided to host an annual community kitchen to feed youths and citizens. The 2010 earthquake has had a huge impact on citizens living in Haiti, while limiting their food and water supplies. The Article seems to be a bit biased with the community kitchen because they state that since not many men know how to cook, and womens do, so the government decided to host the community kitchen only for womens who had childrens that need to be fed. However, the article has some unhonest truth in its biased statements because they state why the article is important. Since men don't know how to cook well, womens who had childrens might as well stepup to feed for their family, this raises a couple questions, Can men really not cook?
