Poverty in Haiti For Or Against?
BIAS IN NEWS ARTICLES ON THE ISSUE POVERTY IN HAITI
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The New York times press article is biased towards the issue Poverty in Haiti. This can be seen through in many of the paragraphs stating that when the earthquake occurred, the government couldn't identify the amount of citizens that were injured or killed during the earthquake. This tells the viewers that the government does not have the proper technology to identify the casualties being injured, as well as they have no experience to rescue citizens from the earthquake. Furthermore, In the following paragraph, it mentions that the President of the United States Obama, stated that "We stand ready to assist the people of Haiti", but there was no following action of proof being taken within the article. Furthermore, it is hard for the viewers to believe that United States did provide medical aid towards the country, but there weren't any actions being shown.
The Miami Herald article is a bit biased towards the issue Poverty in Haiti, as well as to men who know how to cook. This can be seen through in many of the paragraphs stating that ever since the 2010 earthquake, many community kitchens were launched by the governments response to the quake, but only women were allowed to cook the meals and sell them to the villagers. The headline of the article was called" Haiti sees drop in poverty rate, but inequality remains", suggests that since Women are better cooking than men, the government decided to host the community kitchens for only womens who are mothers, and in need of jobs. Furthermore, many men citizens have no jobs, nor food to eat due to the government's response launching only community kitchens for women, which leaves Haiti in the low poverty rate. This tells the viewers that the Government is very biased due to the fact that they limit only women are allowed in the community kitchens, while men can't because they usually don't know how to cook proper food. Finally, some people may think that Women usually cook better than men, which is completely not true and is a false statement.
Although both articles are biased one way or another, they both get efficient amount of information across to the readers about the issue as a whole. The news article, Poverty in Haiti, is reported by both articles somewhat fairly because it answers a lot of the questions the readers may have after reading the articles. But, some questions we're not answered on the opposite perspective of the issue and how people around the world can help aid the issue by making fundraisers and charity donations.
